Demonstrations and protests have been banned for five days in Ankara and Izmir.
All demonstrations, meetings, and marches have been banned for five days in Ankara and Izmir. According to statements from the Ankara and Izmir Governorships, the reason for this decision is to maintain public order and prevent provocative actions. The bans were implemented following protests related to detention orders issued for 106 individuals, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The Izmir Governorship announced that all meetings, demonstrations, and press statements will be prohibited from March 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM until March 25, 2025, at 11:59 PM. The announcement highlighted the need to ensure public order and avoid potential provocations, especially in light of recent escalating protests and provocative incidents. Similar measures have been enacted in Ankara to address the rising social tensions and anticipated protests following the detention of İmamoğlu.
