The US World Food Program is collecting donations in Bitcoin and Dogecoin.
Trump's policies are increasing the pressure on donation programs.
The U.S. World Food Program has started accepting donations in over 80 cryptocurrencies. Among the valid cryptocurrencies are popular examples like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Dogecoin, as well as various altcoins. The organization emphasized that donations can be tax-deductible, allowing cryptocurrency investors to offset their capital gains. This move was made with the aim of raising $25 million through the U.S. unit's Emergency Hunger Relief Fund and filling gaps in initiatives that provide lifelong assistance to 58 million people on the brink of hunger. However, it is also known that U.S. President Donald Trump has adopted a very strict approach regarding federal funds allocated to charitable organizations. Indeed, the Trump administration recently halted funding for the United Nations' emergency food aid initiatives in 14 impoverished countries, including Afghanistan, Syria, and Yemen. These policies are increasing the pressure on the World Food Program and similar programs to raise funds. The nonprofit organization was established in the U.S. in 1995. Despite having close ties with the United Nations World Food Program, it operates as a separate entity.
